Quick Start
Input phrases: "boho earrings", "macrame wall hanging"
For each phrase:
1. Search Etsy Marketplace Insights
2. Record: searches, listings, top 5 buyer search terms
3. Add related terms >20 searches as new rows
4. Calculate opportunity score (searches ÷ listings)
5. Sort by opportunity score descending
Workflow
Progress:
- Access Etsy Marketplace Insights tool
- Input each target phrase
- Extract core metrics (searches, listings)
- Capture "Discover what buyers are searching for" top 5 terms
- Scan for related terms with >20 searches
- Calculate opportunity scores for all terms
- Categorize by search volume thresholds
- Sort final table by opportunity score (highest first)
- Format as clean table
Data Collection Steps:
- Enter phrase in Marketplace Insights search
- Record monthly searches and active listings
- Note top 5 buyer search suggestions
- Scan related/suggested terms for volume >20
- Repeat for each discovered high-volume term
Calculation:
- Opportunity Score = Monthly Searches ÷ Active Listings
- Round to 2 decimal places
Categorization Rules:
- Primary: ≥10 monthly searches
- Secondary: 1-9 monthly searches
- Dead: 0 monthly searches

- Access Required: Must have Etsy seller account with Marketplace Insights access
- Fresh Data: Use current month's data; insights update regularly
- Threshold Discipline: Stick to >20 search minimum for related terms
- Complete Extraction: Don't skip low-opportunity terms; include all for complete picture
- Sort Consistency: Always sort by opportunity score descending
- Clean Formatting: Remove special characters, normalize spacing
Common Pitfalls
- Don't skip zero-search terms - These reveal dead keywords to avoid
