Automating Outbound Marketing

Turn a single brand definition into a self-sustaining, multi-platform marketing operation. This skill encodes the methodology behind agentic outbound marketing systems (as implemented in frameworks like marketmenow): capture brand DNA once, generate platform-native AI prompts automatically, then produce and publish content continuously with minimal human input.

13 / 15

Given a startup name + URL, produce a working marketing engine in one pass:

1. Run brand discovery (scrape URL, infer tagline/colors/positioning)
2. Fill 10-phase config (see Workflow) — ask only for what can't be inferred
3. Auto-generate platform prompts from brand + persona
4. Auto-generate reel templates (structure + companion image/video prompt)
5. Produce first content batch: 1 reel, 1 carousel, 3 posts, 1 doc
6. Output a review summary before any publish/activate action

Minimal invocation pattern:

"Onboard [Brand Name] at [URL]. Generate the 10-phase config,
then produce this week's content calendar across Twitter, LinkedIn,
Instagram, Reddit, and 1 long-form doc. Show me the summary before publishing."
Recommendation
Add concrete input/output examples showing actual generated prompt text or reel scripts, not just descriptions of what would be produced

The core artifact is a Brand Config Object — a single structured document that every downstream generator (prompts, reels, outreach bots) reads from. Build it in this order; each phase depends on prior ones.

Progress:
- [ ] Phase 1: Brand Identity (name, URL, tagline, colors)
- [ ] Phase 2: Product Features (one per line, benefit-first)
- [ ] Phase 3: Target Customer / ICP (pain points, keywords, platforms)
- [ ] Phase 4: Social Persona (voice, tone, example phrases)
- [ ] Phase 5: Twitter Targets (accounts, hashtags)
- [ ] Phase 6: Reddit Targets (subreddits, keywords)
- [ ] Phase 7: Outreach Profile (rubric, message style, rate limits)
- [ ] Phase 8: Platform Prompts (AI-generated from Phases 1-4)
- [ ] Phase 9: Reel Templates (AI-generated structure + prompt pairs)
- [ ] Phase 10: Summary Review → Activate

Phase 1 — Brand Identity

Collect: name, URL, one-line tagline, 2-3 brand colors (hex), logo if available.

  • Infer tagline/colors from the live site if not supplied — don't ask if you can scrape.
  • Tagline must be ≤12 words, benefit-oriented, not feature-oriented.

Phase 2 — Product Features

List one feature per line, phrased as user-facing outcomes, not implementation details.

  • Bad: "Uses vector embeddings for search"
  • Good: "Finds the right answer instantly, even in messy docs"
  • Cap at 5-7 features — more dilutes messaging focus.

Phase 3 — Target Customer (ICP)

Capture: persona title, 3-5 pain points, 5-10 SEO/social keywords, ranked platform list.

  • Pain points must be verbatim-quotable (how the customer would say it, not how you'd describe it).
  • Platform ranking determines content-type allocation in Phase 8-9 (e.g., B2B SaaS → LinkedIn + Twitter heavy, X-Reddit developer tool → Reddit + Twitter heavy, consumer app → Instagram/TikTok reel heavy).

Phase 4 — Social Persona

Define: voice (1-3 adjectives), tone (formal↔casual scale), 3-5 example phrases the brand would/wouldn't say.

  • This is the single most leveraged input — it's injected into every generated prompt in Phase 8-9. Spend disproportionate effort here.
  • Provide anti-examples too ("we would never say X") — constrains drift better than positive examples alone.

Phase 5 — Twitter Targets

List accounts to engage (replies/quote-tweets) and hashtags to monitor.

  • Prioritize accounts with active, relevant audiences over follower count.
  • Keep list to 15-30 accounts; refresh monthly based on engagement data.

Phase 6 — Reddit Targets

List subreddits and keywords to monitor for organic engagement opportunities.

  • Segment subreddits by intent: problem-awareness subs (pain-point discussions) vs. solution-awareness subs (tool comparisons).
  • Reddit requires higher authenticity threshold than Twitter — outreach copy must read as a genuine community member, not a marketer.

Phase 7 — Outreach Profile

Define: engagement rubric (what qualifies a lead/thread as worth engaging), message style, rate limits (max messages/day per platform).

  • Rate limits are non-negotiable guardrails — set conservatively (e.g., 5-10/day/platform) to avoid spam flags and platform bans.
  • Rubric should be a scored checklist (e.g., "mentions pain point: +2, active in last 24h: +1, account age >6mo: +1") so it's programmatically applicable.

Phase 8 — Platform Prompts (auto-generated)

Synthesize Phases 1-4 into one system prompt per platform (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Reddit, blog/doc, YouTube, TikTok).

  • Each prompt must encode: persona voice, platform-native format constraints (char limits, hashtag conventions, CTA style), and 2-3 few-shot examples.
  • Regenerate prompts whenever persona (Phase 4) or ICP (Phase 3) changes — never hand-edit generated prompts directly; edit the source phases and regenerate for consistency.

Phase 9 — Reel Templates (auto-generated)

Generate video/reel structure (hook → problem → solution → CTA, timed in seconds) plus a companion image/video-gen prompt matching brand colors and persona.

  • Standard reel skeleton: 0-3s hook, 3-10s pain point dramatization, 10-20s product-as-solution, 20-25s CTA.
  • Companion prompt must explicitly reference brand hex colors and persona tone to keep visual identity consistent across generations.

Phase 10 — Summary & Activation

Present full config for human review before enabling autonomous publish/outreach.

  • Always show: what will post, where, how often, and what outreach rate limits are set.
  • Never auto-activate outreach (Twitter/Reddit engagement) without explicit human confirmation — content generation can be automatic, direct human-facing engagement should have a human-in-the-loop gate at least initially.
Recommendation
Include a third example showing a failure/edge case (e.g., ambiguous ICP, low-quality URL scrape) to demonstrate handling of imperfect input
14 / 20

Example 1: New B2B SaaS launch Input: "Onboard 'Flowstack' (flowstack.io), a workflow automation tool for ops teams." Output:

  • Phase 1: Tagline inferred from site: "Automate the busywork, keep the judgment calls."
  • Phase 3: ICP = Ops Manager at 50-200 person company; pain points: "too many manual handoffs," "no visibility into where requests stall"
  • Phase 8: LinkedIn prompt emphasizes ROI/time-saved framing; Twitter prompt emphasizes quick wins + build-in-public tone
  • Phase 9: Reel template — hook: "Your ops team is drowning in Slack pings" → solution demo → CTA "Try Flowstack free"
  • Output: 1 week content calendar (3 LinkedIn posts, 5 tweets, 1 reel, 1 carousel, 1 blog doc) + Reddit engagement list for r/sysadmin, r/operations

Example 2: Consumer mobile app Input: "Onboard 'PocketChef', a recipe app, TikTok/Instagram focused." Output:

  • Platform ranking: Instagram Reels > TikTok > Twitter (per Phase 3)
  • Persona: playful, food-emoji-forward, casual
  • Reel template heavier allocation (3 reels/week vs. 1 doc/month)
  • Twitter/Reddit outreach de-prioritized (rate limit set to 0-2/day) since ICP doesn't concentrate there
Recommendation
The 10-phase config is thorough but dense — consider a compact table summarizing phase inputs/outputs for faster scanning
  1. Persona is the multiplier, not the content generator. Invest most iteration cycles in Phase 4 (voice/tone/examples) — every downstream prompt inherits it. A weak persona produces generic content at scale, which is worse than no content (brand dilution).
  2. Regenerate, don't patch. Treat Phase 8/9 outputs as compiled artifacts. When brand voice evolves, edit source phases and regenerate all platform prompts together to keep cross-platform consistency.
  3. Platform-native, not platform-uniform. Never post identical copy across platforms. Same message, different format: LinkedIn = insight framing, Twitter = hot-take/thread framing, Reddit = genuinely helpful comment framing, Instagram = visual-first.
  4. Batch generation, staggered publishing. Generate a week/month of content in one pass for consistency, but schedule staggered publish times per platform's peak engagement windows.
  5. Rubric-gate all outreach. Never let volume targets override the Phase 7 rubric — 5 well-targeted Reddit replies beat 50 generic ones, and platforms actively penalize (shadowban/suspend) low-quality high-volume outreach.
  6. Feedback loop the ICP. Feed actual engagement data (which posts/replies converted) back into Phase 3 keywords and Phase 5/6 target lists monthly — treat targeting lists as living, not static.
  7. Model selection by task type: use faster/cheaper models for high-volume format generation (tweet variants, hashtag lists); reserve flagship/frontier models for persona definition, prompt synthesis (Phase 8-9), and any customer-facing long-form doc content where nuance/accuracy matters most.
  8. Cross-platform provenance. Tag every generated asset with the phase-config version it was generated from, so brand-drift issues can be traced back to a specific persona/ICP change.
  • Skipping to Phase 8 without solid Phase 3/4 inputs. Auto-generated prompts are only as good as the brand data feeding them — garbage persona in, generic content out.
  • Auto-activating outreach without human review. Rate limits and rubrics are safety rails, not substitutes for a human sanity-check before the first live outreach batch, especially on Reddit where community backlash to detected bots is severe and reputationally costly.
  • Treating all platforms identically. Copy-pasting one piece of content everywhere reads as spam and underperforms even single-platform-tailored content.
  • Over-listing features/keywords "to be safe." Bloated Phase 2/3 inputs dilute the persona and confuse prompt generation — enforce the caps (5-7 features, 5-10 keywords).
  • Never regenerating prompts after brand pivots. Stale Phase 8/9 artifacts drift from current positioning; audit and regenerate on any material brand/ICP change.
  • Ignoring rate limits under growth pressure. Platform bans/suspensions from aggressive outreach kill the entire pipeline — conservative limits compound better than aggressive ones that get shut down.
